DoctorNDTV Survey

Health is wealth is more than just an old adage. And to keep in good health, most people need health information at some point of time in their lives, for themselves or their families. DoctorNDTV.com has conducted a survey to find out which is the most preferred source of health information amongst people.

The survey results portray a huge shift in the ways in which people access health and medical information, with more people looking for information online before talking with their physicians. A majority of people (75%) said they surfed the Internet for health information. Books were the next preferred source, with 62% votes. Close to 57% of the people relied on television for their dose of health updates, while 53% got information from their relatives and friends. Surprisingly, only 34% and 23% of the people consulted family doctors and specialists, respectively, for health information.

The Internet emerged as the clear winner, because of the convenience of anytime anywhere searching, but this may have been influenced by the fact that this survey was conducted online. Needless to say, this source cannot replace the expertise and credibility of a doctor, just like books cannot replace the novelty of a teacher.

We might get different results if the same survey is done through traditional modes.

The web survey was held from 10 July 2007 to 9 August 2007.

personal health should be made part of curriculum in high school/colleges. prevention and treatment of diseases, right exercises, effects of different kinds of foods, bad food habits, etc. should be taught.

now a days doctors have become commercialised and there is no family doctor concept at all like earlier days as the country becomes slowly westernised and it is not good. all we are getting thro our own experience and thro relatives and friends.
