DoctorNDTV Survey

Marriage is an institution, whose foundation lies in the trust built by the partners. And trust comes from being honest about each other's past, be it personal, social or medical. Thus divulging the truth about one's previous and current health disorders, helps the partners to understand each other better for a happy and long lasting relationship. DoctorNDTV.com conducted a survey on Marriage and Health to find out how relevant is it to disclose about one's health to the prospective spouse, prior to marriage.

Majority of people were in favour that individuals getting married must meet basic health standards, which are needed for a productive happy marriage and a healthy nation. About 92% people felt that information regarding HIV/AIDS status of an individual should be disclosed to the prospective spouse. Eighty-five percent people felt that one should declare his/her Hepatitis records to the spouse and a close 86% felt that chronic illnesses must be stated before marriage. About 81% preferred that one should be truthful about hereditary diseases and 80% felt that women should volunteer information regarding their previous gynaecological surgeries. However, only 66% of the respondents felt that the spouse should be told about the previous aesthetic surgery.

all of the above are best if disclosed well in advance. it helps to avoid any issues arising out of non-disclosure later on in the relationship.
