DoctorNDTV.com conducted a survey to find out the perceptions and attitudes towards pre-marital sex in the Indian society. Interestingly, it was found that 88 percent of the people who took the survey felt that pre-marital sex did exist in our society but 77 percent felt that attitudes towards it were hypocritical in India. A majority of people (92%) emphasised on the need for more education about this and that we should not avoid discussing an important issue like sex in public. Almost three-fourth of the participants said that attitudes towards pre-marital sex had changed over time while a 20 percent felt the opposite. Out of the large number of people who took the survey, only 15% percent felt that law should punish people who indulge in this.
Inspite of all the above findings, 67 percent of the people expressed that premarital sex should not be encouraged while 16 percent felt that it should be.
