Is AIIMS living up to its reputation?

Also known as the "medical institute", the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is recognised world-wide as a premier public hospital. However, recently the institute has been in the news for different reasons - strikes, political interference and deteriorating facilities. DoctorNDTV.com conducted a survey to find out the opinion of the general public about the current state of the institute.

Two-thirds of the people felt that the facilities at the institute have deteriorated and four out of five respondents blamed political interference for this decline. Nearly two-thirds of the people supported a ban on strikes at premier medical institutes and 77 percent felt that there should not be any reservations for admission. Despite the recent controversies and the perception of decline in the quality of services rendered, an overwhelming majority (87 percent) of the people are of the opinion that AIIMS should not be closed down.
