The survey conducted on DoctorNDTV.com regarding whether doctors were criminally liable for errors revealed that 85% of the total voters (382) felt that the Supreme Court ruling that doctors are not criminally liable for errors would help doctors treat serious cases without fear of being subjected to police harassment and also restore the dignity of the medical profession. Two thirds of the voters felt that this would improve the doctor-patient relationship and 76% felt that this would reduce frivolous lawsuits against doctors. However, 42% of the respondents felt that it could provide a license to doctors to indulge in malpractice. Overall the survey results seemed to be in consonance with the Supreme Court decision. |
